When I got home, however, I noticed that I had mistakenly purchased the one that was too small. So I ended up with a brand new skirt in my closet.

A few days ago, as I was putting away the laundry, I saw the skirt again and decided to make a handbag with it!

This is the skirt:

It’s pretty simple, but I figured I could add some things and make it look nicer. So I started searching in my craft supplies to see what I could use.

I found some fabric that I could use for the lining, some ribbon, and a few buttons.

I also made a yo-yo from a piece of scrap fabric and sewed a button I had lying around in the middle. You can see a tutorial on how to make fabric yo-yo’s here.

Added some pockets to the lining.

Then made the inside of the bag.

After closing of the bottom of the bag I sewed the lining on.

After I was done with that, I sewed some ribbon all the way around the skirt leaving a spot where I was going to put the yo-yo.

Used the rest of the ribbon along with some fabric to make the straps.

I sewed the straps to bag, and decorated the front with the buttons.

Finally added the yo-yo in the front.

And that is how I transformed a simple skirt into a lovely little handbag.

There you have a lovely idea that can also be used to recycle old clothes. I hope you enjoyed.

Total Cost: The skirt was only $3 and the other materials I had lying around.

I’d say around $8 counting the rest of the materials.

Time Spent: About 2 hours.

As I said in my last post, after seeing a scarf in a store I decided to make one myself and ended up buying materials to make three of them. This is the second scarf I made.

This DIY project is really simple, an like last time it’s a good way to practice if you are beginner at sewing.

When I saw this lovely fabric I knew I wanted to use it as a scarf. The fabric is like a chiffon so it’s lightweight and cool. The bright colors and floral pattern just scream spring. I wanted to add something at the ends, so I chose this yellow tassel finishing.

1. Once you have your fabric, just sew both sides and each end. I tried making a design by sewing two lines on each side.

2. After your done with each side, just sew on the finishing to each end, and you’re done!

And there you have a simple way to brighten up your spring outfits.

Total cost: $1.50

Time Spent: Around 15-20 minutes

Personally I’ve always like tassels.  The way they accentuate accessories and decor.  I thought about how I could use this trend for my creations, but didn’t think of anything at the time.  A few days later I was in a store and I saw this lovely scarf.  It had some wonderful spring colors and some tassels, but currently I am not in a situation where I can splurge much, since I’m trying to save money for more important things.  The scarf cost $10, pretty much the standard price I see scarfs sold, but I thought to myself: Why not make it myself?

I went down to the fabric store and for almost the same amount I would had spent on that scarf I bought enough materials to make three scarfs.

Here is the process of the first scarf I made:

Here are the materials I bought. I got a small piece (1/4 yard) of a solid color fabric that had a particular little design that I liked, another piece (1/4 yard) of a lace fabric of a matching color, and of course some tassels.

1. I laid down the solid color fabric and cut cut the sides to make it more even.

2. I then placed the lace fabric on top of it, again cutting the sides to even it out.

3. I then pinned the two pieces together to make it easier to sew.

4. I sew both sides together, flipped it over and then sewed the sides again to make it stay flat.

5. Once I was done with the sides, I proceeded to add the tassels at each end.

That’s all!

It’s a pretty simple project, and it’s a good way to practice if you’re new at sewing like I am.

And here I am wearing my new creation.  I absolutely love how it turned out!  (In the picture you can see a little tassels was loose at the edge I fixed that after posting this)

Then I started posting some doodles because I tried to post one doodle everyday, I did that for almost a month and then I began ignoring the goal I had set for myself and stopped posting.

Now here I am again, a little more than three months since I made this blog with no idea what to do with it.  I deleted all the post I had made and decided to start over and give it another go since I’m feeling much more motivated now.  I’m going to try just to post anything I feel like posting, mostly art related, and see how that goes.  My PC is currently unavailable to me since it needs a new video card, so it’s a bit hard for me to post from my laptop since I’m not used to working on it, but I’ll try.

I always have.  I remember when I was little there was an encyclopedia on art in my house, and I would spend hours contemplating all the different ways people around the world, and across time expressed themselves. I knew that was what I wanted to do.

But sometimes life steers you away from your dreams, and I ended up leaving this dream behind.  I completely forgot it.

Now, years later, this dream has resurfaced.  Although I find myself in a situation where I am not able to completely live this dream the way I would want, now that I have found it again I will try my best to achieve it.  Slowly my creativity returns and I know that someday I will be able to be the artist I dream to be.
